Black Music Month Spotlight: Recall Your First Concert.

Each June, we celebrate Black Music Month — a time to honor the rhythms, stories, and soul that Black artists have given the world. This year, The MPN Network has teamed up with The Ummah Creative Group to reflect on the impact of Black music through a weekly series of prompts. We’re sharing our stories — and inviting you to share yours.

This week’s question: Recall your first concert?

Think back.

Who did you see?

Where was it?

What do you remember — the music, the crowd, the feeling?

Your first concert can tell us a lot about your relationship with music. For many of us, it’s a memory filled with excitement, discovery, and the power of live sound. Whether you were front row at an arena show, catching a local legend at a small venue, or tagging along with a parent to something unforgettable, that moment stays with you.

We had a few of our Neighbors share their answers. Thanks to Krate Digga, Shawn Smith with Dripping In Black, Dominic Lawson, and MistaGoodBar for volunteering their answers!

Now it’s your turn.

We’d love to hear your story in the comments. Share as much or as little as you’d like — your favorite song from the night, what you wore, or how it changed your view of music forever.

Let’s celebrate Black music by honoring the moments that connected us to it.
